Description

Villa Mary is located on a hill in the surroundings of Florence, is a medieval farmhouse: the building was in poor conditions in the late Fifties, when it was bought by an italian-dutch young couple, who decided to settle down here. The house was totally renovated to welcome family members and many guests and friends from all over the world who used to visit them. A recent restoration has given its original atmosphere to the villa: bright spaces and cozy rooms.

It offers a night area at first floor with 5 bedrooms (3 double and 2 twin) and 3 bathrooms + 1 guest bathroom.
Two of the double bedrooms are comunicating each with a twin bedroom and have an ensuite bathroom. The third double bedroom with ceiling’s beams is served by the huge bathroom with tub and shower.

There are 2 living rooms, both with fireplace, one of them is really a typical big country fireplace with sit in space, ideal for cooking chestnuts during the autumn.
The large dining room with garden views is connected with the other living room – the perfect location to rest a bit after lunch.
The cozy fully equipped kitchen faces a wide paved outdoor space which is an ideal playground for children or a dance floor for adults, it gives access to the dining table, the olive tree field and garden. Next to this space there is a meadow with pool and deck chairs. It is the perfect place to rest after a day spent visiting the beauties of nearby Florence.

Car park inside the property, gate width 2,30 m.

We can give you a lot of suggestions and recommendations about what to visit and where to go from monuments and restaurants to sports centers near to the house, like tennis club or the Ugolinogolf course.

The Tuscany region:

Just 20 minutes from Florence, Villa Mary offers hospitality in the wine region of Chianti.

Here, away from the sounds of the city among the medieval villages of the hills, vineyards and olive groves, you will find peace and relaxation while your imagination drifts to an ancient Tuscany when villages such as San Gimignano, Radda in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti were built.

Chianti is famous for its wine and the best way to taste it is to visit the cellars with a group of good friends and to listen to the stories about the way this particular type of wine is produced. You can ask Guido Sommelier, who is a reliable guide/driver and he will be happy to arrange a tour to the cellars.

Otherwise, you can also go there with your own car, the farms and cellars allow guests to try their products, to buy wine, oil and local products. So be sure you have space in your car to take some yummy things with you.

If you are the countryside and beautiful landscapes lover, you can stroll on the little roads leading through cypress alleys and hills to Greve, Radda, Gaiole, Panzano, Castellina, Montefioralle, Volpaia, Passignano Abbey, or you can go mountain biking through this charming medieval village.

If on the other hand you want to experience the cultural side and the night life, it will be nice to visit Florence- the heart of the Renaissance, with its museums, Cathedral, art galleries, bars, restaurants and great shopping areas.

Florence is not the only fabulous Tuscan city that it is close by: Siena, with its wonderful “Piazza del Campo” and the major event- the “Palio di Siena”, San Gimignano with its medieval towers and Pisa with the renowned leaning tower, Lucca, Volterra, Montepulciano, Pienza are all easily reachable.

Villa Mary really is a 20-minute drive from Florence and it is the perfect starting point to discover Tuscany!

Pets friendly (+30€).

  • A magnificent villa with an absolutely wonderful host is what you will find in this restored retreat just south of Florence, just as we did this April. Our first trip to Italy was all that we could have imagined and more, thanks to the location and beauty found nestled in the rolling countryside over the tranquil town of Tavarnuzze. Upon the initial emails with Giulia and Pauline, we knew we were in good hands. Our trip to Italy had more importance to us than just a vacation; we were heading there to tie the knot and needed the perfect location to host a small and intimate wedding ceremony. When we ran across this villa with the gorgeous courtyard and rolling surrounding. We knew that we had found the perfect location. However, we did not know at the time that we had also found the perfect host. Pauline, went above and beyond to ensure that our day went as smoothly as possible, from reaching to out the local businesses in town to acquire appointments with the hair salon, the florist, the dry cleaner, and most importantly the cook (whom prepared the best 5 course Tuscan meal right there onsite!) She made several trips to the villa throughout the week to water the flowers outside and decorated a beautiful wedding table outside for our reception while we were gone taking pictures-a complete surprise, as we did not ask for this. She even drove a few people in our group to the airport! She knows the area like the back of her hand and is there for you the entire way with a step-by-step guidance. She told us exactly how to maneuver the bus in and out of Florence and all the best places to eat and the best tours to take, which she also made calls and set up for us. She really made this trip for us! The villa itself is a two-story home, which has many rooms to enjoy including a nice size living room and large dining room. The bedrooms are all located on the second story and are spacious and very comfortable with bathrooms nearly connected to each one. The bedrooms also contain the most comfortable, luxurious beds we have ever slept in on vacation. The kitchen was fairly well stocked and there was plenty of dinning ware even for a large group. The villa did include wifi, however it was very slow and often did not work if more than a few people were connected at once, however I think this problem was more due to the location of the villa and cannot be changed. The exterior space is sprawling with multiple ways to take in the surrounding views and the sweet Tuscan air. The location of the villa could not be more idyllic, with Florence just a short bus ride away and many other iconic villages and cities within an easy day trip by car. From this location you really can get the most out of your travels and be able to relax and enjoy your trip. We had the most amazing time and cannot recommend this Villa and Pauline enough.

  • We had the most wonderful time at this gorgeous medieval hillside villa. We were a group of 8, including two young children, and it was perfect for us. The thick stone walls give you privacy and keep it cool when it’s hot yet the courtyard and terrace are south facing sun traps. The bedrooms are all spacious and beautifully presented (with wonderful, high quality mattresses) and there are 3 bathrooms, including a huge family bathroom with roll-top, which is a delight. The kitchen is a little tight for a lot of chefs but has huge character and is very well appointed, opening out into the courtyard. Locationally, it really couldn’t be any better – as long as you are ok on the windy track to the house itself (and slipping the car through a narrow gate!). It is out of the village up a steep hill, so you do need a car. You are a short bus ride into Florence – with buses every 15 minutes from the village of Tavarnuzze or even more frequent from Galluzzo, where you can park for free. Taxis in the evening are around 30 euros each way to Florence. It’s around an hour by car to Lucca and Pisa and only 45 minutes from the stunning Siena and San Gimignano, both highlights of our trip. And the Chianti hills with their classic Tuscan scenery and vineyards are on your doorstep. Pauline was a wonderful, welcoming host, speaks excellent English and is incredibly knowledgeable about the area. She is a tour guide that teaches new tour guides – there won’t be much she doesn’t know! And she has lots of contacts, helping us find a guide for a wine tour. The manager, Giulia, was incredibly quick and detailed with her responses throughout the booking process and a pleasure to deal with. I really can’t recommend Villa Mary enough – it really was the perfect place to stay to see the best of Tuscany.

  • An ideal villa for our family holiday. Bedrooms were all beautifully presented, bathrooms great, lounge room spacious and cool. Fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge, and laundry plus quality linen and plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware. The pool, although above ground, was large and well maintained, as were the gardens and outdoor patio areas. We loved our stay here. It you do need your own transport as the villa is not within walking distance of public transport or village type amenities.

  • Giulia and Pauline are great hosts. The house is newly renowated with love, charme and great taste. Perfectly cleaned rooms, a well equiped kitchen and lots of space in and around the house. We loved the pool during the hot season. We had a great time staying there and will definetly come back! Stephanie

  • We had a nice stay here! The house is well decorated with beautiful Italian furniture that fit well in to this environment. Awesome beds. Pauline is a great host and practical help. Because she is also a tour guide she knows the surrounding area and the monuments of Florence, Pisa and countryside better than average, allowing us some good tips. We enjoyed every minute of our stay with her. The location was a nice way to start off our discovery of the Chianti and cities. Strangely enough you’re just a couple of car-kilometers outside of main city centres but in such a relaxed atmosphere! Having a seat outside with views of the surrounding hills and dales, dotted by olive trees, is something that I would recommend to everyone. Something negative? Yes, we didn’t stay long enough.
